The overall cheapest SUV to insure is the Chevrolet Trailblazer from the compact segment costing $1,394 per year. The cheapest midsize SUV to insure is the Honda Passport at an average of $1,438 per year.  For full-size models, the cheapest large SUV to insure is the Chevrolet Tahoe at $1,730 per year.

Compact SUVs tend to dominate the list of cheapest vehicles to insure (all vehicles, not just SUVs), taking eight of the top ten spots. These models are affordable to purchase, have reasonable damage repair costs, and have very good safety ratings, which translates into low car insurance rates.
