Mitsubishi Motors is headquartered in Japan, and has roots back to 1917 when Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. manufactured a hand-built, seven passenger automobile, of which only 22 were produced.
Following a detour into military production during World War II, which was common for Japanese automakers, Mitsubishi was split into three separate companies. These three companies are represented by the three diamonds in their current logo.
Today, Mitsubishi is one-third owned by Nissan, and is attempting to revitalize the brand with models like the Outlander, Mirage, and Eclipse Cross.

As with the Asian brand comparison, Mitsubishi insurance rates tend to be higher than most mainstream automakers. However, when compared to luxury brands like Lexus, Acura, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz, the average Mitsubishi rate looks pretty affordable.
This stands to reason, however, since the MSRP for Mitsubishi models is considerably less than the majority of luxury models. Car insurance rates are not entirely based on the cost of the vehicle, but more expensive models do tend to have higher rates than cheaper models.
