The most apples-to-apples car insurance cost comparison is between Rivian and Tesla. For 2024 models, Rivian insurance costs an average of $47 or 2% more than Tesla insurance.
This may have something to do with the higher average purchase price for Tesla models. The Tesla Model 3 is cheaper than anything offered by Rivian, however the Model S Plaid and all versions of the Model X have higher MSRPs than Rivian models.
In addition, Rivian insurance rates will adjust after the wheels hit the road, so to speak. Higher repair costs or more likelihood of passenger injuries in an accident are factors that could push Rivian rates higher down the road. Conversely, a great track record of safety and low medical insurance claims could bring rates down.
